Next Meeting!
NOTE Change of location
- When:
- Wednesday, July 2, 6:30-8:00pm
- Where:
- Cook Community Center
510 Gopher Dr.
Cook, MN - Speaker:
- Allegra Dengler, Chair, Citizens for Voting Integrity-New York
- Topic:
- Election Freedom, Election Security Are our elections really free? Fair? Secure? Did Kamala lose in 2024? Learn about the threats to our elections and get ready to protect the 2027 elections.
Allegra Dengler has participated in elections as an elected official, as a candidate for Mayor of Dobbs Ferry, as a District Leader, and as a poll watcher in New York and Florida. Allegra participated in recounts in New York and New Hampshire and traveled to Pennsylvania, California, Ohio, Washington DC and Costa Rica to observe elections and meet with election security experts. Her passion is fighting climate change and species extinction, but after Bush v Gore, she realized that all her efforts must go to protecting the vote count, so that anti-environment candidates don't take office because of insecure election technology and procedures that make it impossible to verify who actually won.

Senate Budget Bill ...
"Senate Budget Bill Will Leave 11.8 Million Uninsured and add 3.9 Trillion to Debt.
"We now have confirmation that the Senate budget bill will cut $930 billion from Medicaid. That's more than the House bill.
"If passed, the bill would make ICE the nation’s largest jailer, with more detention funding than the entire federal Bureau of Prisons and more officers than the FBI.
"A group of Louisiana hospitals warned that Medicaid cuts in the Senate GOP’s bill “would be historic in their devastation,” calling the House version 'a more workable solution.'
"The National Association of Building Trades Unions warned that the Republicans' budget bill could be the biggest job-killing bill in U.S. history, threatening 1.75 million construction jobs—the equivalent of terminating over 1,000 Keystone XL projects.
"Behind closed doors, the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown has led to dangerously overcrowded detention facilities, where detainees endure inhumane conditions—lack of medical care, unsanitary environments, and prolonged confinement—amid a record-high population of over 56,000 immigrants in custody, far exceeding capacity."

Inspirations
We Need 1,000 Melissa Hortmans Now
The leaders we are waiting for are us
Jeff Blodgett, formerly a senior aide, advisor and manager to the late U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone, writes in a commentary that years ago we turned the Wellstone tragedy into something good, and we can do it again.
"So, just as with Wellstone two decades ago, we now need a thousand Melissa Hortmans. We need people to step up where she left off. People who get to climb on Melissa's shoulders, get in there, fight for people and make a difference," Blodgett writes.
"People who will volunteer to serve their neighbors, knock on doors, join a local board, march in a rally, and, yes, run for office. And, once in office, to lead with integrity and courage.
Will that be you?"
A Hero: The Senate Parliamentarian Has Reset The Game
From the Big Picture blog
"Rulings by Elizabeth MacDonough take big bites out of the GOP’s 'Big Beautiful Bill'"
Zohran Mamdani
"After Mamdani's surprise victory, Democrats should be taking notes"
"On Tuesday night, Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani scored a major upset by defeating Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic nomination in New York City’s mayoral race. With a commanding lead of 43.5% to 36.4% after the first round of votes were counted, it quickly became clear that Mamdani had assembled a broad coalition of voters that not only stretched across all five boroughs but also transcended race, religion, and ethnicity."
Klobuchar Stands Up
"Democratic leaders rallied Wednesday against the congressional budget and tax cut bill, fearing changes to the national food assistance program will blow holes in state budgets and leave Americans hungry."

Supreme Court capitulates to Trump (again)
Robert Hubbell blog
"Yes, the capitulation of the Supreme Court is disheartening, even sickening.
"But whatever happens, we must not quit, we must not relent. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, those who fought to bring us safely to this moment, knowing that they might not enjoy the fruits of their labor.
"We must repay our debt to them by refusing to surrender even when the outlook is dim and we feel beleaguered."
