Political Grief Toolkit

This workbook is a tool to help you navigate that journey—offering practical strategies, insights, and reflective practices to turn political grief into a source of resilience and strength for yourself and those around you.

Demonstration safe practices

Demonstrations can be highly energizing, an opportunity to reconnect with people you haven’t seen all winter or meeting new folks. It is important while you’re talking with people, chanting, singing, signing, and marching to also stay aware of your surroundings and situations that might escalate. Stay back from the curb and be aware of traffic.

For your comfort and safety

Keep hydrated, wear weather-appropriate clothing, use sunscreen. Take protein/energy snacks, and a charged cell phone. If you do not want to be identified, wear a face mask and cap, hat, or scarf and cover up any tattoos. Turn off your phone or put it on airplane mode––just being on can leave an identifiable "trail."

Stay protected: If you are participating in a large or potentially dangerous demonstration with a possibility of arrest, let someone know where you’re going, go with a buddy, take towelettes and face coverings, cash, and meds.

Plan your demonstration or event

Plan and publicize the event schedule. Have designated people to: get any permits needed; notify the city and police of your schedule, even if permits are not required; contact local media. At the demonstration, have people to: sign-up attenders for a contact list; act as greeters, welcoming people; act as “safety” monitors, ready to calm people or intervene; take photos; lead singing/chanting; handle donations, such as for the food shelf; set up and monitor information table; handle first aid emergencies.

Votes Must Be Counted

After months of Republicans attempting to steal a North Carolina State Supreme Court seat by disqualifying overseas military ballots, U.S. District Judge Richard Myers ruled that the votes of military and overseas voters must be counted and the race certified for its lawful winner, Justice Allison Riggs. The opponent, Jefferson Griffin, conceded after a 6-month legal battle to overturn the election. Protect Democracy (from: protectdemocracy.org).

In other good election news

Brian Kemp has opted out of challenging Jon Ossoff in next year’s Georgia Senate race and Marjorie Taylor Greene has also opted out of running, mostly likely due to Ossoff’s double digit popularity (from: protectdemocracy.org).

JD Vance flops

JD Vance endorsed his half-brother Cory Bowman in a mayoral race in Ohio, the poor guy got demolished.
